The Hunch that Saved Your Life

9 out of 10 Stars

I haven’t always lived in Tucson, Arizona. Believe it or not, I grew up in the frozen north. In the spring of 2007 I had a job that required that I drive from my former home in St. Paul, Minnesota to downtown Minneapolis over Interstate 35W near the University. The stretch of road that connected the west end of the campus and downtown Minneapolis went over a large bridge. That summer, a former partner and I planned a move away from the Twin Cities to the Pacific Northwest after she graduated. It was a bridge to another life.

Sure, I had friends in Minnesota. I was relatively happy with my life, though I hated the winters. Still, for years I could never shake the feeling that I was being called to be elsewhere, and that feeling grew stronger every day.

My decision to make this move is not why I am telling this story. Rather, it is about why we feel called to make the decisions that we make. It was never a question that I was going to leave Minnesota. It was a given.

But where did that feeling of it being a “given” come from? I ask this question especially in light of what happened less than a couple of months after I moved.

The aforementioned bridge I took to and from work every day collapsed tragically, killing thirteen people, one rush-hour evening. If I had still been at my job I almost certainly would have been driving home on or within a mile or two of that bridge right about when the accident happened, given the timing of when I finished my workday.

Most of us can point to a handful of missed opportunities, disasters, and lucky breaks in our life like this one. What causes us to make pivotal decisions? Have you also made a decision that seemed to come from nowhere which potentially ended up saving your life?

Many of the choices we make are deliberate; accepting a job offer, getting out of a bad marriage, or choosing to begin a career as an Astrologer. Most of the decisions are based on the desire we all have for a better, or more aligned life. However, this isn’t always the case. I can’t fully explain why I left Minneapolis when I did. Perhaps it was my own intuition guiding me. Perhaps something else.

What I just described above is why Neptune is such an important planet. Neptune rules, among many things, the decisions we make from a purely intuitive level. Not only are we not always in control over the direction our lives go, but some of the decisions we make could be said to come from a place outside our understanding of reality. Did some part of me know that leaving the Twin Cities when I did was critical?

There are two different and opposing ways that we make decisions. One of these is an active process where we charge forward in a new direction, hoping that it will help us to reach our goals. The other type is the intuitive, subconscious decision that seemed to come from nowhere else but “just a hunch”. The former decision is ruled by Mars, the latter by Neptune. Why do I bring this up?

Mars went retrograde a few days ago. Neptune just went direct.

During this period of transits it is time to put more faith in the intuition, the hunches, and the subconscious choices we make. These will be not only more powerful for a while, but also preferable to thinking that we always know what’s best. This week put down your spreadsheets, your calculators, and your “on paper” decisions. Mars is retrograde. Neptune is direct. Listen to your gut.

Also, the energy on a micro-level is really nice this week, especially around the end of the week when we get a strong full Moon in Gemini combined with Mercury also going direct. This time period will culminate with a feeling that we no longer have to hold back on our ideas. We can share them with the world, and in many cases, all the things we thought would not be well-received will actually be accepted with open arms. The energy on both Monday and Friday are especially sensitive and positive.

This is a good time in general to tell people how you are really feeling about them, or about something you’ve been holding back. But probably wait until the weekend or even early next week for Mercury to station and turn itself back around!

The bottom line is this: hug the people you are close with this week. Encourage them to trust the hunches too.

Words of wisdom: While it is important to be open with your feelings and your ideas, timing is also important. Sometimes people are just not in the mood to receive information or energy from you. This has nothing to do with you.
