The winds of change

First and foremost, Aquarius is an Air sign. That might be deceptive given its watery title, but read on, and it will all make sense to you, I promise. Daring, original, and frankly a bit bizarre, Aquarius leads by forward-thinking, rebelliousness, and a driving passion for making waves. I mean tornadoes. Doing things the same old way just never appeals to the Aquarian mind or heart. Originality is the hallmark of this sign, and many Aquarians find success via some unusual or unexpected path, often making them the biggest original thinkers of the zodiac.

Aquarius energy can seem like a study in contrasts; personal yet detached, communal yet independent, and sometimes all in the same day. From childhood through adulthood, Aquarius seems to have its own internal GPS and follows it wherever it leads, regardless of what the establishment may think. Totally committed to their vision, even the youngest Aquarians rarely seek out the help of authority figures and often reject their interference. These “different drummers” may seem odd or eccentric to some, but they frequently forge new avenues of thought to explore and blaze trails where few have thought to go.

Aquarian energy is advanced in its understanding of human nature and is often rejected by those who resist change and prefer the traditional way of doing things. Best suited to friendly, open environments that promote conversation, independence, and free thinking, Aquarians balk at authoritarian leadership and control. In professional situations, they ask for as little direction as possible and often come up with surprising solutions that no one saw coming. In this way, Aquarians learn to rely on their inner vision and creativity to solve problems rather than on the advice of others. This is partly what makes them seem detached: they just have a lot of self-reliance as this way of being works well for them.

As for their personal relationships, Aquarius does not entirely reject emotional closeness but may find itself happier in unique living arrangements and non-traditional partnerships that allow for independence, equality, and freedom. Like Sagittarius, a traditional marriage likely will not be the wisest decision for someone with a lot of Aquarius energy in their birth chart, who may do best creating a relationship that works for their need for originality and authentic self-expression. You'll find many members of this sign experimenting with open relationships, questioning the illusory notion of gender, staying unpartnered, existing without a traditional job, refusing to be labeled, and just generally laughing at us traditionalists.
